ARE we being intentional?

This year I have decided to be intentional – with my self, with my personal time, with my work, with my bible study.

I was sitting here thinking what do I want to accomplish this next year, and there is so much, but the most important thing for me is to walk and grow my relationship with God. I have come a long ways, but I know I have a long ways to go too.

As I was reflecting on how I wanted to be intentional, the word “Flourish” popped into my head. So, what does the X Generation – Google loving person do – I googled the definition for the word.

In the Bible, “flourish” means more than worldly success; it signifies deep, holistic well-being, often linked to the Hebrew concept of shalom, meaning wholeness, peace, and right relationship with God, others, and creation, like a thriving plant rooted in God’s presence, bringing forth righteousness, fruitfulness, and abundant life, even amidst challenges, leading to spiritual growth and God’s favor.

Key Aspects of Biblical Flourishing:

  • Shalom (Wholeness/Peace): The core idea, encompassing salvation, integrity, security, justice, and a thriving life in every dimension, not just absence of conflict.
  • Rooted in God (Like a Palm Tree): Righteous people flourish like palm or cedar trees, symbolizing strength, longevity, and fruitfulness from being planted in God’s house (Psalm 92:12-13).
  • Spiritual Growth: Becoming more like Christ through faith, hope, and love, dying to self, and maturing in character (Philippians 4:10 uses a similar concept of revival).
  • God’s Provision & Blessing: Flourishing is a result of God’s presence, blessing, and establishment, leading to prosperity and well-being.
  • Transformation: Desolate places (like deserts) can bloom abundantly through God’s intervention, showing renewal (Isaiah 35:1-2).
  • Contrast to Worldly Views: It’s a loftier, eternal flourishing, distinct from mere material wealth or worldly comfort, available to all people.

In essence, biblical flourishing is to thrive in God’s design, experiencing deep life, purpose, and fruitfulness as a result of a restored relationship with Him, even if worldly circumstances are difficult.

So, this year, I intend to “Flourish” in my relationship with God. And from my past experience, I know that the stronger my relationship with God, the stronger everything else in my life will be. The devil thinks he can get to me, but I know that my Savior has got me covered.

Love ya’ll!

Becky
